Chalkboards and a Pretty Planter

I love old picture frames...

...and I found these oldies but goodies last week.  Right away I knew they would be perfect for mini chalkboards!

I totally forgot to take before photos - sorry!

I painted them with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Louis Blue and then I washed over them with a pretty antiquing gel.

I love how they turned out!

I thought they'd be so pretty on a desktop.  You know, instead of  unruly pieces of  sticky notes everywhere.   That's what I use mine for and it really dresses up the desk quite a bit.

I write little notes and reminders on it.

They'd be cute as wedding table decor too!

or a sweet little Valentine note!

I also got this cool old Syroco planter/wall pocket.

Is it just me or does anyone else love that old Syroco decor?

I'm not always crazy about the original color of it though, so I painted this one.

It got the same treatment as the chalkboard picture frames.

as well as a wee bit of distressing.

Pretty cool huh?

Fall and a Chalkboard

Remember the mirror that I bought at the yard sale a couple of weeks ago?

You can see it here.

The plan was to turn it into a chalkboard, so now it's just that ~ a chalkboard!  I finished it up last week.  I removed the mirror and painted the backer board inside with chalkboard paint.  Then I wrote "Happy Fall" on it and added it to the mantel as part of the fall decor.

I also added a few dollar store crows - love the dollar store!

and this cool fan that my brother-in-law gave to me.

  We all had a yard sale together several weeks ago.  We were sitting around a few days before the day of the sale discussing all of the items that we had to get rid of.  He mentioned that he had this old fan he wanted to sell.  His wife said, "no way that thing is so old, you can't sell it.  Just throw it away."  I said, "you better not throw it away - haha, I'll take it."

and that is how the fan came to live on my mantle

It's crusty and old but that's just how I like it!!

DIY Chalkboard

Do you remember this picture that I had hanging above the sofa? Well, I was needing a change. I like the picture and all...but I wanted it to be a chalkboard even more than I wanted it to be a picture.

So here is what I did...

First, I took apart the picture and then separated all of the pieces.

lying about here and there - just keepin' it real people!}Anyway, see that brown cardboard piece there on the right?

Here it is up close. I painted it with chalkboard paint.

Yes, right over the cardboard. Then I simply switched the order of the pieces when re-assembling my frame. The cardboard piece was just the filler piece that goes in the back. I put it in the front and then used the print in it's place. Have I explained that right or do I sound totally run-on and confusing? Sorry, It's been such a long day and it's late - I know you can relate! Anyway, I digress. By doing it this way, if I ever want my picture back, all I have to do is put it back in it's original order. No harm done.

I have to make a correction. My spelling skilz are shining through. You see rule #7 up there? Yes, well instead of say "your" sorry, it should read: Say "you're" sorry. I guess I got so excited about the project all coming together, the chalk started to fly and well, my skilz went out the window. I corrected it on the chalkboard too.
