Sunday Blessings

Our oldest son has Down's Syndrome and is such an amazing blessing to us. He has taught us to love on a deeper level and I have discovered patience that I never knew I had. We are honored and thankful that God chose us to be his parents. Not too long ago, someone gave us this beautiful poem and I wanted to share it with you today for Sunday's post. There is no author's name given, it's just printed on a laminated card. The back however does read: Published by Tim Tiley Ltd. in Great Britain
A meeting was held quite far from earth
"It's time again for another birth"
Said the angels to the Lord above
This special child will need much love.
His progress may be very slow.
Accomplishments he may not show
And he'll require extra care
From the folks he meets down there.
He may not run, or laugh or play
His thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways he won't adapt
And he'll be known as handicapped.
So let's be careful where he's sent,
We want his life to be content.
Please Lord find the person who
Will do this special job for you.
They may not realize straight away
The learning role they're asked to play,
But with this child sent from above
Comes stronger faith and richer love,
And soon they'll know the privilege given
Their precious child so meek and mild
Happy Sunday

As a pediatric speech pathologist in my professional life, I get to enjoy the gifts of a child with Downs. I love this poem and may just frame it in my office for other parents to see. This was wonderful. Thank you for sharing it.

This poem beautifully expresses the special qualities of so many children, and of the love and care they need to flourish. You are a blessing to your child just as he is to you.
